Description

A superb vintage Ersari Turkaman rug dating to circa 1970, featuring a highly organised field of repeated gul medallions set against a deep indigo-black ground. Rich madder reds, burnt orange and subtle ivory highlights create the strong, unmistakable character of traditional Turkaman weaving, framed by multiple finely worked geometric borders.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan with an all-wool pile and wool foundation, this superfine example displays unusually crisp drawing and detailed knotting for its type. The dense construction, lustrous wool and beautifully balanced tribal design give the rug both decorative strength and genuine collectable appeal.
