A rare vintage Dolatabad Turkmen rug from Afghanistan, dating to circa 1945. Hand-knotted in an all-wool construction, it features eighteen traditional octagonal Turkmen guls arranged across a rich red field, surrounded by numerous finely patterned geometric borders. The deep madder-red palette, intricate tribal drawing and impressive large proportions give this old piece considerable character. Woven for durability as well as decorative appeal, it is an excellent example of traditional Afghan Turkmen craftsmanship from the mid-20th century. Origin: Afghanistan Style: Dolatabad Turkmen.
