A striking Afghan Turkmen rug combining classical Mamluk-inspired medallion motifs with a contemporary transitional treatment. Layers of pale blue, deep navy, rich red and warm gold create an expressive distressed effect, allowing the traditional geometric design to emerge through bold areas of colour.
Woven in Afghanistan using traditional Turkmen techniques and natural vegetable dyes, the rug has attractive tonal variation and a handcrafted character. Its fusion of historic Mamluk design with a modern abstract appearance makes it particularly suited to contemporary, eclectic and transitional interiors.
